The Heart of the Matter

Thought for the Day:

Proverbs 4:23; Proverbs 14:34; Psalm 33:12a

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…”

Tuesday, November 8, 2016, will be the 58th presidential election in the United States of America.  From what I hear in the news and see in the press many people consider this a pivotal election that will decide the fate of America.

The so called conservatives believe America is headed in the wrong direction and if Hilary Clinton becomes the next president she will destroy what is left of America.  Some of these same people believe Donald Trump is the answer.

I read a Letter to the Editor by John Grychak, Sebastian in the TC Palm (a subsidiary of USA Today) that stated, “Donald Trump will be the savior of America.”  There was a video on the Internet titled: Donald Trump: the Savior of America.

If you do a search on the Internet and type in “Savior of America” you will see similar hits ad nauseam.

NO POLITICAL CANDIDATE CAN FIX OR SAVE AMERICA.

America’s problems are NOT political.  America’s problems are spiritual.  What made America great was the LORD.  At one time, America was even known as a Christian nation that sent out missionaries around the world.  She was great because God made her great.  “Righteousness exalteth a nation…

The only thing that can change the current situation in America is prayer and repentance.  God’s people must pray and ask the LORD to forgive them and repent of their wickedness.

God gave a promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14:

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Barak Hussein Obama did not create the current situation.  He is not the great mastermind behind the destruction of America.  He is a symptom of a much larger problem.  Barak Obama is president because America as a nation has turned her back on God.

The Bible states in Romans 13:1, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.”  This means President Obama is president because God made him president.

If you truly wish to see America saved then you as an individual must make the change in your life.  You must seek the LORD (Matt. 6:33; Acts 17:27).  You must pray  (I Thess. 5:17; James 5:16).  You must repent of the wickedness in your life (Matt. 3:2; Matt. 4:17; Mark 1:15; Mark 6:12; Luke 13:3; Luke 13:5).  You must fast (Matthew 6:16-18).  You must forgive your neighbor and mend your broken relationships (Luke 17:4; Matthew 18:35) .  You must stand in the gap (Ezekiel 22:30).

If you think this is not the answer, you are wrong.  One person makes the difference.

God is not a respecter of persons (2 Chronicles 19:7; Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11; I Peter 1:17).

God does not change (Malachi 3:6; James 1:17).

That means the way the LORD was with Moses, He can be with you.  Moses defeated the most powerful army on earth in his day with a stick (Exodus 14).

The way the LORD was with Elijah, he can be with you.  Through prayer Elijah started and ended a drought, raised the dead, and defeated his enemies even though he was out numbered 450:1 (James 5:17-18; I Kings 17-18).

If you want to look at a long list of people who through faith and obedience changed their world, simply read Hebrews 11.

shutterstock_101942641Today, do not focus on treating the symptoms of America’s problems.  Get to the heart of the matter and deal with the sin in your life.  If you and I truly do our part to obey, worship, and honor the LORD, things will be changed for the better.
